Asus Zenfone 3 Max India Review

Zenfone 3 is a smartphone from the house of ASUS . With a price tag of Rs.16,999 , let’s get in-depth to know more about the capabilities and see if this is worth the price

Design and Build

Being an metal design with plastic top and button, though not a premium design still looks good and comfortable in hands. With 72.3% screen-to-body ratio and Weighing  175 grams   it’s not bulky .    I can say  it’s one of the the lightest Smartphone with a big battery and large display. Even though Asus hasn’t done anything extraordinary to the design, it is sure one of the good looking phones out there .

With the well rounded 2.5 D glass  found on the front  gives the much needed attention  I would say . Impressive.

 – Front top we have the ear piece , sensors and selfie camera. Front bottom the physical navigation keys
 – Back houses the rear camera ,  finger print sensor , dual flash and laser focus .
 – The top houses the 3.5mm headphone jack along with the secondary mic.
 – The bottom has the primary mic, Micro USB port and the speaker grill.
 – On the left you have the SIM tray ( hybrid )  and on the right we have the well designed metal buttons – volume rocker and the power button.

The ASUS Zenfone 3  Max comes loaded with a  Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 , an entry level  processor clocked at 1.4 Ghz bundled up with an Adreno 506 GPU .  You get 32GB of internal storage.

The Zenfone 3 max supports a hybrid SIM slot that can take one Nano SIM and a Micro SIM  . If you are a single SIM user you have the option to expand storage with a  microSD card. While both SIMs support 3G/4G, only one can connect to 3G/4G networks at a time. Supports OTG. Audio through the single speaker is good.   Comes with a Fingerprint scanner . It is fast and super responsive.

Comes with the 5.5 inch full HD display, the Zenfone 3 max has a very good display. The colours are natural  across various lighting conditions. The colour reproduction is good and the picture is sharp and  vivid. Overall display was bright and clear.  Display works well in indoors and also under direct sunlight. It will for sure give you a good movie watching experience.

With an entry level processor,   Qualcomm the Zenfone 3 max’s performance is not all that impressive.  The phone handles everyday tasks such as  moderate browsing chatting, social media , videos with ease.  On the gaming, it cannot handle high end titles with ease.  You can’t play graphic intensive games on this device. It’s not a gamer’s delight .

Comes with most of the sensors you need accelerometer, compass ,light , Gyroscrope etc .Overall on the performance is just okay.

Next is the Camera   – On the front we get a 8 MP shooter is pretty good at taking selfies. The 16 MP rear camera has an f/2.0 aperture with laser auto focus system that helps to focus on the subject really quick.

Camera performs well in daylight , takes decent pictures with details.

In poor lighting conditions,  the camera really struggles.   You can shoot upto 4k videos with this. The camera app on the ZenFone 3 max comes with a lot of options and camera modes to choose from.. Here are some sample shots raw unedited…

Asus Zenfone 3 Max comes loaded with Android marshmallow  out of the box with the new version of ZenUI 3.0 on top with additional functionalities that are handy . . Given the specs and  3 gb ram , interface is smooth and responsive.  RAM management is good. Nothing t

Even though  it comes with the 4100 mAh battery, the main highlight of the phone. Battery back up is super impressive . I was able to pull it up  for  2.5 days  with moderate gaming, chatting, multitasking,  social media etc .  The software is optimized and also has a lot of battery saving options.

On the downside , there is no fast charging available for this battery.

Now  summing it up , the Asus Zenfone 3 max comes with a hefty price tag 0f 16,999 INR  which is not competitive given the fact you get smartphones with high end specs in this range. I can only recommend this for its excellent battery backup. Apart from that it sure falls  short in many areas for its price. If it has been priced less around the Rs.10,000 range then for sure would have been an impressive option to consider. Hope the price comes down.
